Plastic Free Letchworth
Transition Town Letchworth have signed up with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) as the Plastic Free Community Leader for Letchworth.
We have worked through the Plastic Free Coastlines Community Toolkit and Letchworth is now an Approved Plastic Free Community.
The approved plastic free community award recognises the significant work that has taken place, but there is still much more that can be done to reduce local dependence on single-use plastics.
Help us work with local businesses, venue managers and community organisations to help find ways to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

Plastic Free Letchworth projects
As an Approved Plastic Free Community Plastic Free Letchworth are expected, each year, to:
-
Have four Steering Group meetings of which at least two involve the local council.
-
Engage with the local MP.
-
Encourage existing businesses that took action to remove at least three single-use plastic items to sign up for the Plastic Free Communities Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
-
Work with 6 new businesses to help them identify and remove at least three single-use plastic items and replace them with sustainable alternatives.
-
Increase community allies (e.g. local groups, community venue managers) and connect with at least 15 allies (new and existing) during the year, gaining plastic free pledges if we have not already .
-
Encourage schools to become Plastic Free Schools
-
Hold three Community Events, for example, a litter pick, (with the local council supporting at least one community Plastic Free initiative).
-
Contribute to National SAS Campaigns and take part in one SAS Activation as a Steering Group.
Let us know what you're doing to reduce your use of plastics, we'd love to share your progress and ideas that others can learn from
